Commemorating Jimmie Rodgers

Jimmie Rodgers, 'Father of Country Music', and a great influence on bluegrass musicians of the first generation, died seventy-nine years ago today (26 May 1933). Among other commemorative events this month, a wreath will be laid on his grave at Oak Grove cemetery, Meridian, Mississippi.
Daniel Mullins is contributing a series of commemorative articles to Bluegrass Today, of which the latest is here. We recommend reading all of them, and playing the Jimmie Rodgers records in your collection - or indeed the Niall Toner composition 'Jimmie Rodgers' dream', the full story about which appeared on the BIB on 15 July 2009.
