Westport Folk & Bluegrass Festival programme for 2011
Electric Cave Production reports from Westport, Co. Mayo:
It is hard to believe but in June 2011 it will be five years since Westport joined the bluegrass family of Ireland and it is now in the running to be crowned as the bluegrass capitol of the west of the country. To celebrate the fifth festival, Uri and his team created a rich lineup with strong bluegrass acts alongside some folk golden moments. The festival's motto was always 'the best of local, national, and international music', and this year we will have two Westport bands, three Irish acts, one from Northern Ireland, four acts from America, and a headline band from England.
A Band Like Alice
The main event will showcase the great talent of Tim Rogers & the Clew Bay Critters (Westport), the Dust Busters (USA), and A Band Like Alice (UK). Among the other acts we will see the MacEvillys (Westport), the Bluestack Mountain Boys (Dublin), Louisiana Joyride (Belfast), the Molly Hicks (Galway), County Line (USA), and two folk singers from the States - Jim Keaveny and Jason Serious.
Tim Rogers & the Clew Bay Critters
The main event will be moved this year to the Wyatt Hotel, and a special offer should be available for accommodation. A new website for the festival should be live by January next.
It is going to be a great weekend for bluegrass fans with the usual workshops, sessions, and pub gigs. Tickets for the main event will stay at the very attractive price of €15. More details about the festival in the next few months, and Geraghty's pub in the town will continue to hold folk and bluegrass gigs leading to the festival. See you in Westport!
