Old-time instruction, and more

This week's FOAOTMAD news blog carries this poster advertising the January workshops in old-time fiddle and banjo to be held in Slimbridge, Gloucestershire, in the west of England. Click on the image for a larger view, or go to the FOAOTMAD blog, and/or e-mail for more information. There's a regrettable clash of dates with the Shannonside Winter Music Weekend in Co. Clare.

FOAOTMAD also sends news of a seminar on banjo origins at the University of London and Institute of Historical Research on 1 December. Full details are on the blog.

Rayna Gellert (also on Facebook, and other social media) sends her latest e-newsletter with news of instructional old-time fiddle videos online, how to get direct tuition from her, and her imminent first online concert (9 Nov.).

Thanks to Archie Warnock of the IBMA for drawing attention to this online article, 'new rules for the music business', by US singer/songwriter Carsie Blanton. Worth consideration by anyone who's trying to make music and money at the same time.
