Some July 2013 memories

Thanks to Des Butler for these and other photos from this year's very enjoyable Athy bluegrass festival (12-14 July). Des just sent copies of photos showing your editor, so modesty prevents our publishing more than two. Above, Johnny 'Born to be Bad' Gleeson (vocal, dobro) with Roy Brown (bass) and - among the floral display - the editor, in the show outside Athy Heritage Centre at Saturday lunchtime.

Above, Woodbine on stage during the Saturday evening concert, with George Kaye (fiddle) at centre rear.

Carol Hawkins took this photo during a long jam in the beer garden at Clancy's in Athy's main street. The jammers include (l-r) Gerry (mandolin), George (fiddle), Howard, Richard, and Roy of the Down and Out Bluegrass Band, and Fintan (fiddle). Does anyone have contact data for Fintan? We have some info on the Toronto scene that might be of use to him.

Above, Bryan Thurber who (along with Tom Corbett) played on and off stage with the Tennessee Hennessees and Woodbine during the Ardara festival a week after Athy. Playing with Bryan and meeting him and his wife were great pleasures. The photo is from the website of the Gadjo Gypsies, the string swing trio with which he plays in the US.
