Other news

As noted on the BIB on 2 May, the First Lady of Banjo, Roni Stoneman of the legendary Stoneman family, will be in Ireland from 30 May to 20 June on a friendly visit. She will make some select performance appearances, notably at the 7th Westport Folk & Bluegrass Festival (14-16 June) in Co. Mayo. At the Cabin Sessions in Dundrum, Dublin, on 30 May, she will make a brief appearance as a very special guest in an informal setting.

Her first full show on stage (thanks to Paul Lee and his Musiclee.ie agency) will be on Sunday 2 June at the Purty Loft in Old Dunleary, between Monkstown and Dun Laoghaire, near where the west pier meets the mainland. There Roni will be accompanied by Hugh Taggart (guitar) and John Denby (mandolin), two of the hottest young pickers on the bluegrass scene here.

Doors will open at 8.30 p.m.; tickets are €13.00/€10.00, and can be booked online, where more details are available. This has the hallmarks of a historic occasion for bluegrass music in Dublin.
