Live - Mike Compton and Joe Newberry

Two artists who have both performed in Ireland as members of prestigious bands have together made Live, an album of a dozen traditional, old-time, and bluegrass songs and tunes. Mike Compton (above left), the #1 man for embodying the Bill Monroe spirit in mandolin playing, and Joe Newberry (above right), the man who made Rudyard Kipling's career as a bluegrass songwriter, recorded their album Live almost a year ago with a single mike. The following YouTube link to them playing 'Garfield's Blackberry Blossom' (not on the album) gives the feel of their close collaboration.

Thanks to Heidi Herzog, assistant to Mike Compton, for news of the album, which has had a warm welcome from discerning critics. A revealing interview with Mike Compton is on the Mandolin Cafe website. For extended liner notes and contact, schedule, and booking information, visit the Mike Compton or Joe Newberry websites. CDs may be purchased through CD Baby. (CD cover art: Eric Young)
