Ireland in America: Shamrock City by Solas
Thanks to Stephanie Fields of Make It Bigger Mama Publicity for news of Shamrock City, the forthcoming ambitious new project by Irish-American folk group Solas, focused on immigrant life in the mining centre of Butte, Montana, a century ago. Financed through a successful Kickstarter campaign, the project has three parts - a CD, a DVD, and visuals that will form part of live shows.
The band is taking part in the Celtic Connections festival in Glasgow later this month. A point of interest for BIB readers is that one of the CD tracks features Rhiannon Giddens of the Carolina Chocolate Drops and another features Aoife O'Donovan of Crooked Still. A brief trailer of the project and one of the songs, 'Tell God and the Devil', are on YouTube.
