The 6th Westport Folk and Bluegrass Festival is on its way

After a year long of preparation, last Friday night (25 May) Uri and his team officially launched the 6th Westport Folk and Bluegrass Festival. The event took place in the newly found home of the Electric Cave Production - McGing's pub. On the night there were opening words by Uri Kohen (the festival producer) and the official part by Councillor Christy Hyland, cathaoirleach of Westport town council.

The full house later enjoyed a full show by Mayo's top bluegrass band: the Rocky Top String Band (aka the MacEvillys) [below]. The band is one of only two acts to play every festival since 2007; and this year, once again, they will play the opening show at the Clew Bay Hotel.

This year, as well as our very generous sponsors such as Mayo and Westport councils and Discover Ireland, we were given the stamp of approval and support from the national Arts Council, which gives us the belief that we are doing something right. Every year we are also being supported by local businesses and a growing number of venues that are taking part in the event.

So... we are looking forward to seeing all folk and bluegrass lovers in Westport in the last weekend of June (29-30 and 1 July). We will provide a rich, quality programme of shows and sessions in the beautiful town of Westport.
