It's nice to get good news of some of the Irish bluegrass music scene's best friends in the USA: so thanks to
Emily Amos of
Compass Records for the news that the label is releasing
Scratch Gravel Road, the latest CD by the
Special Consensus. The album is due for release on 27 Mar.; the band are already touring in support of it and will continue the tour into the summer. Full details of the record, with contents, authorship, and guest artists, are on Compass's
e-press release.
Special C. founder and leader
Greg Cahill received an
IBMA Distinguished Achievement Award last year, and one of the many reasons was that he has spent decades introducing thousands of young people to bluegrass music through school programmes. He will consequently be one of two speakers in an IBMA
webinar on 'How to present and book bluegrass programs at schools'. Full details are in this
IBMA news bulletin.
Update 8 Mar.: Compass, which has a large catalogue of high-quality Celtic music, is holding a St Patrick's Day sale, giving 25% off all their Celtic CDs and DVDs, including the recent
Green grass, blue grass by the
Brock McGuire Band with such distinguished guests as
Ricky Skaggs. Take a closer look at the red banner at the top of the image on the left; you can see it more clearly
here.
