Sacred Harp convention in England, 23-4 Apr. 2011

There are plenty of satisfactions to be found in the bluegrass and old-time scene over here. In Britain there are some added bonuses, in what seems like a wealth of Appalachian dance groups, and Sacred Harp singing ensembles with their own national organisation.

Thanks to the UK's old-time association FOAOTMAD for the news that the East Midlands Sacred Harp Convention is being held on 23-24 April 2011 at the Village Hall, Kegworth, in Leicestershire. More details are here. The weekly FOATMAD mailout adds:

You are cordially invited to the East Midlands Sacred Harp Convention. There is no need to book in advance - just turn up and sing!

We note that the CD I belong to this band (see photo) is available, as a companion to the documentary film Awake my soul, mentioned some time ago on the BIB. Full details of the CD are here - where you can also see what Charlie Louvin, who died earlier this year, had to say on the influence of Sacred Harp harmony on the Louvin Brothers' singing.
