St Patrick on the original Bluegrass Blog

Other business prevented the BIB from drawing attention to this in time, but yesterday the patron saint of Ireland was represented on the original Bluegrass Blog. This was in the widely reported video by Dublin-based singer/songwriter Chris Kavanagh of his song 'Paddy's day', accompanied by long-neck 5-string banjo, fiddle, guitar, and bass on screen, with whistles on the soundtrack. Viewers who know Dublin can have further fun identifying the locations.

The theme of the song is the expulsion of serpents from Ireland. In hagiographical legend, St Patrick appears as the winner in some tough bargaining with an angel to secure the favourable treatment of Irish people in heaven. Some may have felt in the past that the deal should have put similar emphasis on their earthly welfare. Perhaps this is an appropriate time for a renegotiation of the terms.
