Ernest Tubb (1914-84)

Thanks once more to the Prescription Bluegrass blog for a reminder that today is the birth date of Ernest Tubb, and for a very informative biography that includes four performance videos from YouTube.

As well as being one of the giants of the country music industry and a founder of the honky-tonk style of country (not to mention the fine record shops that bear his name), Ernest Tubb has influenced bluegrass musicians through his songwriting as well as his performing - in recent years, in particular, through the example of the Osborne Brothers, who have recorded an album of his songs; and the Del McCoury Band and IIIrd Tyme Out, whose versions of Tubb's 'Thanks a lot' have been influential.

Update 13 Feb.: Prescription Bluegrass is keeping up the good work, with recent posts on Red Allen (12 Feb.) and Boudleaux Bryant (13 Feb.).
