Your instrument and the weather

Rapid changes in weather conditions, of a kind likely to affect musical instruments, are more common in the US than here; but the recent fluctuations between freezing and thaw have been so dramatic that this advice from Conor Daly (banjo-player with the Bluestack Mountain Boys) is salutary:

I just thought you might like to mention the sharp increase in humidity in the last few days on the blog. Sometimes people are tempted to make hasty seasonal adjustments when something feels a bit different or out of sorts with their precious instruments. I have done this on a few occasions when it would have been better to leave it alone. It looks as if this one will pass and stabilise in the next few days, so I think it's better to sit it out before doing anything drastic, especially with banjos.
