Leroy Drumm - and Carter Stanley

The original Bluegrass Blog reported yesterday the recent death of Leroy Drumm of Tennessee, at the age of 74. The funeral directors record that he was 'a Navy veteran and a retired welder'. As the BB makes clear, he was also a deservedly highly regarded bluegrass songwriter, especially in collaboration with Pete Goble. Their songs include many well known to Irish audiences and performers in particular: for instance 'Big spike hammer', 'I'm only a phone call away', 'She's walking through my memory', and 'Colleen Malone' (IBMA's Song of the Year for 1991).

The BB also commemorates today the death of Carter Stanley on 1 December 1966, with a video of a Stanley Brothers performance in Germany nine months earlier, and a link to this appreciation written four years ago by Richard F Thompson.
