New Bill Monroe 100th Birthday Celebration website
Thanks to the European Bluegrass Blog for news of a new website set up by the local authorities in Owensboro-Daviess County, Kentucky, as part of their support for the Bill Monroe 100th Birthday Celebration programme.
Bill Monroe (1911-96), 'Father of Bluegrass Music', would have been 100 years old in September 2011. The new website is a comprehensive guide to the centennial celebrations, listing events, facts about Bill Monroe's life, awards, photos, maps, and links to the International Bluegrass Music Museum and the Monroe Home Place in Rosine, KY, where a special Bill Monroe Birthday Party on the Lawn will take place on 13 Sept. 2011. The photo of Bill Monroe that originally accompanied this post is under copyright and had been used on the BIB without the permission of Jon Sievert, owner of the website from which it was taken. It has been removed from the BIB at Mr Sievert's request, and with the editor's apologies.
