The Dust Busters in Westport, 3 Sept.

Thanks to Uri Kohen of Electric Cave Production, who reports from Westport, Co. Mayo:

Last January we hosted in Westport a gig by a Galway band, Mad Uncle Harry. It was a big eye-opener for me and one of the best gigs I had heard till then, so when Noriana Kennedy from the band recommended me to book a Brooklyn band, the Dust Busters [above], I knew it was a safe bet.

The time came, and the band landed in Ireland for three shows. Last Friday, when most readers of this blog travelled for their annual gathering in Omagh, we hosted the band in Geraghty's, Westport. They played an outstanding gig - their music was true to the real tradition of old-time music. They changed multiple instruments between them and even gave us a taste of American folk tap-dancing [left].

The night finished when Sara MacEvilly, Westport's top bluegrass singer, joined the band for a grand finale [below]. A superb night, hailed by all, and I understand that they got similar reviews in the other two gigs in their Irish tour. We sure hope to see them travelling to our shores again.

On Saturday 18 Sept. 2010 we will host the wonderful Molly Hicks. See you in Belfast's Open House this Saturday!
