Director of Bonnie and Clyde dies
Film, theatre, and TV director Arthur Penn died on Tuesday, six days after his 78th birthday. His many works included - most memorably for bluegrass enthusiasts - Bonnie and Clyde (1967), with the most prominent of its soundtrack music supplied by a Flatt & Scruggs recording of 'Foggy Mountain breakdown'. This was a major stimulus to 5-string banjo playing, and has also firmly established in the public mind an association between the banjo and car chases. Read the Daily Telegraph obituary here.
