Sister act
Hubie MacEvilly (left) and the Henry Girls
Uri Kohen reports from Westport, Co. Mayo:
Last February we had the New Family; in May we had the Sullivan Brothers; and last night we had the McLaughlin Sisters, aka the Henry Girls (next is the Mamas and the Papas). When the likes of the Carter Family and the Staples were creating the perfect family harmonies, little did they know that in a small town in Ireland, three sisters will recreate this perfect sound.
The Henry Girls from Donegal came back to Westport last night (5.6.2010) to perform at the launch party of Westport's 4th Folk & Bluegrass Festival. In what turned out to be a great night and in front of a full house, the Girls showcased their superb talent in a great show of perfect harmony singing and playing at least seven different instruments.
One of the highlights of the night was when the Girls were joined by Hubie MacEvilly to perform some classics such as 'The Tennessee waltz' and 'You are my sunshine'. A great night, held by all to mark what is going to be one of the great festivals of the summer. See you in Westport!
