Glen Campbell in Ireland, 23-4 Apr.
Country music legend Glen Campbell played in Killarney last Friday (23 Apr.) and at Vicar Street, Dublin, the following night, before beginning a series of dates in Britain up to 13 May. Bluegrass enthusiasts owe Glen Campbell a good deal for the exposure he gave to banjo players such as Larry McNeely, Carl Jackson, and the late John Hartford. Roger Ryan was at Killarney, and reports:
The Glen Campbell Show was outstanding. Almost a full house for a two-hour show which featured Glen, his two daughters and his son, and two teenage guitarists. Glen celebrated his 74th birthday on the night, so I guess the secret is: surround yourself with young people and you'll stay young yourself.
