'Folk America' on the internet

Thanks to Roger Ryan of the Country Music Association of Ireland for passing on the news that the three-part BBC documentary series 'Folk America', tracing the history of American folk music from the 1920s to the folk revival of the 1960s, can now be watched on the internet.

The first instalment, 'Birth of a nation', deals with the period when old-time music gave birth to the country music industry, and includes such figures as Ralph Peer, Fiddlin' John Carson, Pop Stoneman, Wade Mainer and his wife Julia ('Hillbilly Lilly'), Uncle Dave Macon, Charlie Poole, Mississippi John Hurt, Doc Boggs, Sara and A.P. Carter, and Jimmie Rodgers.

All three parts can be seen here.
