Ties between Berklee and Ireland have never been stronger. Dublin native Matt Halpin is the recipient of Berklee's highest honor, the full-ride Presidential Scholarship, and is an inaugural member of the Berklee Global Jazz Institute, the college's new center for musical creativity and global activism. Grammy-winning Riverdance composer Bill Whelan serves on Berklee's board of trustees. In 2007, U2's The Edge was awarded an honorary degree by the college.
