Thanks to Orla Keeshan (welcome back, Orla) for news of forthcoming events in the Back Room of the Cobblestone, Smithfield, Dublin, accurately described as

a warm, intimate venue hosting folk, roots, country, & more. Also hosting small theatre productions, CD & book launch nights. Seating 60+. *Concessions/advance booking by e-mail with no. of tickets, name & band in the subject title. Also e-mail for future listings with 'mailing list' in the subject title.

The Cobblestone hosts traditional music sessions every night of the week (Mon.-Tues. from 9.00 p.m., Wed.-Sat. from 7.00 p.m., Sun. from 2.00 p.m., plus the long-established old-time music session, led by Bill Whelan, on Sat. (4.30-7.00 p.m.)

Fri. 12 Nov. Al O'Donnell (a giant of the Irish folk scene for 40 years; 'one of the great voices in our singing tradition', former member of Sweeney's Men). Doors 9.00 p.m. €10

Sat. 13 Nov. Tumbleweed Love Sessions (roots music, country, folk, bluegrass, rockabilly and 'homegrown' styles of rock). Doors 9.00 p.m. €8

Fri. 19 Nov. CD launch: The Leitrim cake by Joe Lacky Gallagher (1919-79), master fiddler; recordings previously only available in RTÉ radio archives and National Folklore Archive, UCD. Doors 8.00 p.m. FREE

Wed. 24 Nov. Ballyfermot College of Further Education School of Traditional Music students' show. Doors 8.00 p.m. €7/5

Fri. 26 Nov. Des Cafferkey (tin whistle, flute, Scots pipes; album Achill Head) + guests Tony Byrne, Tony Quinn & more. Doors 8.30 p.m. €10

Sat. 27 Nov. Aisling Quinn (singer/songwriter; debut album Let the games begin due out Feb. 2011) & the Halliday Squares ('a band of merry musicians in tow staging quirky theatrical shows'). Support from Aidan Murphy. Doors 9.00 p.m. €10

Tues. 30 Nov. Tongue Box (performance poetry, other forms of spoken word; haus poets CAH 44 and Raven. Doors 9.00 p.m. FREE

Thurs. 2 Dec. Marzroche (singer/songwriter) plus his trio (acoustic folk and soft rock). Support by Colum Fagan. Doors 8.30 p.m. €5
