Mike Auldridge, 30 Dec. 1938-29 Dec. 2012

The BIB carried on 2 and 3 October this year news of a tribute organised to honour dobro maestro Mike Auldridge. The December 2012 issue of Bluegrass Unlimited magazine also included a major article by Robert Haydon on his life and on his performing career, which extended over more than four decades.

Today Bluegrass Today broke the sad news that Mike Auldridge died this morning after a period of treatment for cancer, a day short of his seventy-fourth birthday. A substantial commemorative feature by David Morris, including the words of many musicians who knew Mike, has since appeared on Bluegrass Today here. Further tributes can be expected in the next few days.

Update 30 Dec.: Photographs of Mike at the 2000 Trnava Dobrofest in Slovakia (where he was the headline artist), as well as in other contexts, can now be seen on the European Bluegrass Blog. All were taken by bluegrass journalist Lilly Pavlak, who in 2011 received an IBMA Distinguished Achievement Award.
