Galway Americana Festival, 15-19 Sept. 2010
Thanks to Pete Lamb for welcome news of this year's Galway Americana Festival, with concerts and sessions throughout the west side of the western capital. The Festival website gives the complete schedule of times and venues, with photos, bio details, and web links for the twenty-five acts taking part over the five days (15-19 September 2010),* plus the associated lecture programme.
*In error, this post originally showed the dates as 13-19 Sept.
As usual, as much as possible of the festival has been made free of admission charges, so there is no overall festival ticket. Tickets for shows with admission charges are available directly from the venues concerned tight up to show time, but advance booking is recommended to avoid disappointment.
The lineup is headed by the legendary, award-winning Jim Rooney (shown above with Nanci Griffith and John Prine: photo by Erika Goldring). Jim has done so much that even the fine bio on the Festival website can't help omitting some of his notable contributions to bluegrass history: early picking partner of the equally legendary Bill Keith; writer of the first published biography of Bill Monroe; and - as a member of the New Blue Velvet Band - featured artist at the first Athy Bluegrass Festival in 1991.
For all other details and info, see the Festival website.
