Glories of old-time two-finger banjo

Banjo-playing in old-time music nowadays tends to concentrate on clawhammer style, passing over other methods that were widespread in former days. Who better to draw attention to them than Art Rosenbaum, whose Old time mountain banjo book (Oak Publications, 1968) presented a wide range of styles, and whose present book, The art of the mountain banjo, is available from Mel Bay.

Thanks to FOAOTMAD for passing on news from Dave Richardson of this 15-minute segment from Rosenbaum's 'Backroads & banjos' weekly radio broadcast from Atlanta, GA, featuring the two-finger picking of the late Omer Forester of Humphries county in central Tennessee. You can hear his beautiful playing solo, in a splendid banjo-fiddle duet, and in a full string-band context.
