Bluegrass night at Cairncastle Ulster Scots Festival, 25 July 2012

Thanks to Adrian Rolston for the news that the Cairncastle Ulster Scots Bluegrass and Folk Festival committee will this year hold the bluegrass evening of their festival on Wednesday 25 July, in a large marquee in Cairncastle village, four miles north of Larne, Co. Antrim.

The evening begins at 7.30 p.m. with the Juke Joint from Lurgan, Co. Armagh (in effect another configuration of the Tennessee Hennessees). They can be seen on YouTube performing 'Train 45' and 'Sunny side of the mountain' at last year's Cairncastle festival. The Down and Out Bluegrass Band from Belfast have appeared on BBC2TV's 'Santer' programme and at numerous festivals in Ireland including Omagh, Derry, Mohill, Bruff, Sixmilebridge, and Tramore, and will appear at Moniaive in Scotland later this year. Bending the Strings from Mullingar, Co. Westmeath, who are making their second Cairncastle appearance, will end the concert.

The full festival (25-29 July) also includes traditional Ulster Scots/Scottish folk music evenings. Meals (£8.00) will be provided on site in a marquee from 5.00 to 7.00 p.m. each evening. To book contact Mark (07770767976). Attractive festival hotel rates of £25.00 for B&B are available - phone Bobby on 07774401935 for more information. Full details are on the Festival website; or e-mail, phone Bobby (number as above) or contact a local tourist information centre for a festival leaflet.
